#IMWAYR Intro. and Spring Break Reads

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Date. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now… who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book! Our Kid Lit to YA version is hosted by Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers.

This is my first time joining in on the fun. I'm very excited to share my #IMWAYR list with you all!

Because it is Spring Break, I have chosen to take a little time away from Children's Books. However, I will still be reading Neighborhood Sharks by Katherine Roy and Josephine by Patricia Hruby Powell. Both are award-winning nonfiction books that will be shared a lot next school year, so stay tuned for book reviews on these two this summer.

One of the books I will be enjoying this week is Calvin by Martine Leavitt. This book was recommended by our district's high school librarian. She was raving about this book about a teenager with schizophrenia named Calvin. Growing up he had a stuffed tiger named Hobbes, but now he's back as a delusion that just can't be controlled. Calvin and Hobbes, get it? I'm excited for this one.

I'm listening to a couple other young adult books on audio. How It Went Down by Kekla Magoon revolves around a teen shooting, told from many different perspectives. I love the different voices in the audio book, it really helps piece together the different sides of the story. I'm also trying out Audible for the first time by listening to I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. It's been on my list for a while, since it's on a bunch of recommendation lists and is a big award winner, as you can see. But I'm not sure how I'm feeling about it quite yet. Stay tuned.

Since it's spring break I'm working on a longer adult novel than I usually read during the school year. Few authors make me slow down and really savor each read. Kate Morton is one of them. I am loving The Lake House! The back and forth between the past and more modern day really has me intrigued to figure out what really happened to the young boy who disappeared many years ago.

I'm also giving A Fatal Grace by Louise Penny a shot. The Chief Inspector Gamache novels are highly recommended by one of my favorite book blogs, Modern Mrs. Darcy. On one of her most recent podcasts she shared that it takes a couple books before the author really gets into her rhythm. I wasn't to wowed by the first book, but I'm willing to give the series another try. Eleven books and counting, it has to be good!

Of course I want to know, what are YOU reading this week?

Back to the books,

Audra
